HISTORY IN BRIEF
In 1979 the Government of West Bengal established one Girl’s
College in Suri , the Headquarter town of District of Bibhum
with a view to impart education to younger girls .But in 1987
the college was converted into a co-educational Degree College.
Birbhum Mahila Mahavidyalaya was renamed as Birbhum
Mahavidyalaya.
This college is situated at Baruipara,one of the oldest
localities in Suri, in a beautiful open land with natural
environment in the North-eastern part of Suri. This Temple of
Learning is being governed by the Rules and Regulations of the
Department of Higher Education, Office of the D.P.I. ,
Government of West Bengal and the University of Burdwan with
renowned nominated and elected in different categories following
the rules framed by the Government and the Burdwan University.
Shri Pranab Kumar Mukhopadyay, present Minister -in –Charge of
Finance, Government of India , Dr.Ramchandra Dome ,Hon’ble M.P.
, General Shankar Roychowdhury, Govt. of India’s former Chief of
the Army (former M.P., Rajyasabha), the Department of Higher
Education, Govt. of West Bengal have donated from their funds
from time to time for the different development of the college.
The University Grants’ Commission has been kind enough to allot
financial grants under several heads of Projects for the rapid
developmental features. The University of Burdwan also extended
its fraternal hands for expansion of different academic plans
and programmes.
Now this institution imparts instructions in Higher Education in
Honours and General Course in English, Bengali, Geography,
Sanskrit, Political Science, History, Philosophy and General
Course in Sociology and Education. Results are also satisfactory
and glittering in different branches since the very beginning.
It has been also affiliated with the B.Sc. General Course for
teaching Physics, chemistry, Mathematics from the academic
session 2010-2011. Recently the college has been accredited by
NAAC.
One Library with different facilities, one Laboratory in
Geography, three units of National Services Scheme are the
unique side of this institution for serving the society.
There is also one Study Center of the Rabindra Bharati
University with motto of imparting instructions in P.G. Course
in different subjects.
Teachers are
dedicated and trying their best for the progress of the college
with the assistance of the non-teaching fraternity. There is a
Students’ Union with high hopes and aspiration to dream for an
excellent institution with all round development as well.
ANKUR, the College Magazine, published by the Student’s
Union, is the leading spot in the on-going history of the
college.
